Rob Edwards sounded unconcerned about resting Mateus Mane ahead of Brentford on Monday, as the Wolves youngster could make his 14th consecutive Premier League start.
According to Molineux.news, Mane broke into the side with his first top-flight start at Liverpool in December and has since become a fixture.
Edwards said Mane has given everything, works extremely hard, made an early impact by scoring a couple of goals, and continues to influence goals without scoring. He cited his involvement in the goals against Arsenal and praised the unseen work that makes him important to the team. He added that Mane tops the running numbers in each match and on most training days, so energy is not a concern.
He noted that, if selected, it would be a notable group to join, after a reporter compared Mane’s sequence to Gareth Barry, Raheem Sterling, Michael Owen, Micah Richards and James Milner.
Many supporters have argued a breather could help protect him, yet Edwards’ comments suggest any rotation may wait. Mane’s emergence when confidence was low has underpinned Wolves’ recent improvement, but whether he is taken out of the team remains to be seen.
