After spending four years at Macclesfield Town, the former Wales midfielder has now been appointed manager of the National League outfit.
Having previously been on the board of the lower-league English side, Savage stepped into the managerial role at Macclesfield last year and steered the team to the Northern Premier League championship, earning promotion to the sixth tier of English football.
Now, the BBC 5 Live pundit has moved up a level to become head coach at Forest Green Rovers who narrowly missed out on a return to the EFL after falling to Southend United in last month’s play-off semi-final.

Now, the 50-year-old revealed he sought advice from Celtic legends – Rodgers and O’Neill – before accepting the offer from the ambitious Gloucestershire club, drawing on his successful playing days under O’Neill at Leicester City, where they lifted the League Cup 25 years ago.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Savage said: “Fortunately for me I have worked with some unbelievable people. I spoke to Martin O’Neill yesterday who is more than willing to come down, sit with me and have a coffee.”
“I’ve spoke to Brendan Rodgers and Sean Dyche, real football people. As soon as this opportunity came about they said ‘it’s an unbelievable opportunity for you.”
“As a manager I have tried to take little snippets from each one but I think I am a good motivator, a good man-manager and I believe I know how to get the best out of a collective and more importantly an individual.”
“I have been in their shoes numerous times and have suffered disappointments and experienced highs and lows. If I can take little things from everybody, I think we’ll do well.”
Savage backed Rodgers’ controversial move to Leicester from Celtic in 2019. The ex-Wales international also championed the current Celtic boss during his turbulent spell towards the end of his reign as Foxes manager.
