Prior to their final home match of the 2025-26 season, Barcelona were informed that Robert Lewandowski would be leaving when his contract expires at the end of June. The Polish striker, who scored 120 goals in 193 appearances over a four-year spell in Catalonia, had been offered the chance to sign a renewal, but he turned it down in favour of seeking a new challenge.
Lewandowski, who turns 38 in August, has attracted lots of suitors over the last few months, and those interested clubs have made their moves in the aftermath of his exit decisions. Club in Italy and Saudi Arabia have been credited with an interest in his services, although it does appear that he will continue his career in the United States.
Chicago Fire were one of the first clubs to announce their plans to sign Lewandowski, and while a deal had looked unlikely a few weeks ago, they have ultimately been successful in convincing him to join. As per reports in Poland (via Sport), the 37-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the MLS side, whose recent talks with his agent have ultimately proven successful.
Lewandowski had been offered much more to become the next big-name player to move to Saudi Arabia, but he has turned it down in favour of joining Chicago Fire. This weekend, he will travel to the United States to finalise his signing, thus giving the club’s supporters the chance to celebrate his impending arrival.

Despite being in the final stretch of his playing career, Lewandowski has made it clear that he will not retire anytime soon. He will at least see out his Chicago Fire contract, as his plan is to represent Poland at Euro 2028 – should he manage to guide them to qualification.
