The club said in a statement that former head coach Robert Vicot has died aged 94. He led Paris Saint-Germain from 1972 to 1975, helping take the side from the Third Division to the First Division.
Appointed in summer 1972 as the second manager of the newly founded club, he succeeded Pierre Phelipon. After the split with Paris FC, PSG had to restart in the Third Division with mostly amateur players.
Previously in charge of the youth sides, the former defender, who made 255 appearances for Toulon between 1956 and 1964, guided PSG to the Second Division at the first attempt.
A year later, in 1974, PSG returned to the top flight after a play-off win over Valenciennes, 1-2, 4-2. He worked alongside Just Fontaine, who kept PSG in Division 1 in 1974-75.
Vicot left the role in November 1975, leaving Fontaine in sole charge. He later managed Rouen from 1975 to 1976 and 1980 to 1985, and Paris FC from 1976 to 1979, taking both clubs up to the top flight.
He had settled in Corsica in retirement.
