Italian has his work cut out as Spurs fight to stave off relegation
Roberto De Zerbi has arrived at Tottenham as he prepares to salvage his new club’s season.
The Italian has landed in north London after Spurs parted company with their second boss of the campaign, having sacked Igor Tudor last week.
He has now been pictured as Spurs’ new head coach for the first time, with the club releasing an image of the Italian holding a shirt with a smile on his face on Wednesday night.
Tudor had initially come in to replace Thomas Frank until the end of the season, with the Croat deemed an interim initially, but a potential permanent option if his appointment proved a success.
It did not, as the former Juventus head coach won just one match of his seven in charge, losing five and drawing the other.
Spurs also crashed out of the Champions League on Tudor’s watch, with the exit including a first-leg humbling by Atletico Madrid, where goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky was hooked after just 17 minutes after two calamitous mistakes.
Now, De Zerbi takes charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the remaining seven matches of the Premier League campaign.
Spurs sit perilously in 17th place, just one point above the relegation zone.
De Zerbi, who previously managed Marseille, will oversee his first test at Sunderland on April 12, before he takes on his former employers Brighton on his home debut.
He left his position at Marseille February after a 5-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain, and he has been out of work since.
