Former Spurs managerial target is available after Frank sacked
Roberto De Zerbi has left Marseille amid links with the Tottenham job.
Former Brighton manager De Zerbi's has departed the Ligue 1 club after recent poor results - most recently a 5-0 loss to rivals Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
A statement from Marseille read: “Olympique de Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi, coach of the first team, have announced the end of their collaboration by mutual agreement.
“Following discussions between all stakeholders in the club's management-the owner, president, director of football, and coach - it was decided to make a change at the helm of the first team.
“This was a difficult collective decision, taken after careful consideration in the best interests of the club, in order to respond to the sporting challenges of the end of the season.
“Olympique de Marseille would like to thank Roberto De Zerbi for his dedication, commitment, professionalism, and seriousness, which were particularly evident in the team's second-place finish in the 2024-25 season.
“The club wishes him all the best for the rest of his career.”
De Zerbi's exit came hours before Spurs sacked Thomas Frank.
A 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, their seventh at home in the league this season, saw Spurs move to within five points of the relegation zone. An unthinkable position for Spurs to find themselves in with 12 games to play.
While former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to return to north London in the summer, he is currently preparing to guide the USA into a home World Cup. His availability, if any, is not expected much before August.
De Zerbi has been installed as the bookies' favourite for the position.
The Italian was of interest to Spurs in 2023, before Ange Postecoglou was appointed, but is said to have underwhelmed then-chairman Daniel Levy during the interview process.
