Liverpool delivered a statement performance on Wednesday night, securing a commanding 2-0 victory over European champions Real Madrid at Anfield. Yet, amid the euphoria, underlying narratives bubbled, not least Jamie Carragher’s criticism of Mohamed Salah and the ensuing response from Andy Robertson.
Much of the pre-match discussion centred on Mohamed Salah, whose recent comments urging Liverpool’s owners to act swiftly on his contract negotiations raised eyebrows. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher labelled the timing of Salah’s remarks as “selfish,” especially given the critical week ahead for Arne Slot’s side.
After the match, Andy Robertson offered a glimpse into Liverpool’s reaction to Carragher’s critique during an engaging post-match interview on CBS Sports. Host Kate Scott couldn’t resist asking the left-back about the mood in the dressing room following the outspoken remarks.
“What do you guys think about him over there? Take us inside the dressing room, what are the thoughts on Jamie Carragher?” she asked.

Robertson responded with a wry smile, saying, “He’s been getting a bit of stick in the changing room this week, that’s for sure! No, no comment… I think he gets paid to do his job, all of you do, it’s part and parcel of football. He has to give his opinion. Whether we agree with it or not is a different story!”
The light-hearted yet pointed remarks drew laughter from the studio panel, which included Carragher himself. It highlighted the team’s resilience in brushing off external noise, staying focused on the task at hand.
Despite the off-field drama, Liverpool appeared undistracted. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo sealed an impressive win, with Slot’s side displaying defensive solidity and attacking intent. However, Ibrahima Konaté’s late injury casts a shadow over preparations for their looming clash with Manchester City.
Carragher’s comments may have sparked debate, but Robertson’s response suggests a team firmly united.
