Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso insists no decision has been made regarding Rodrygo’s future, despite persistent transfer links to Arsenal.

The Brazilian’s time in the Spanish capital has been called into question at various points this summer due to his lack of involvement at the Club World Cup.

Despite starting, and providing the assist, in Los Blancos’ opener against Al-Hilal, Rodrygo has made just two appearances since and they were both as a substitute.

However, in Real Madrid’s humiliating 4-0 semi-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night, Alonso opted against bringing Rodrygo off the bench in an attempt to change the game.

Though, the Spanish tactician said in the post-match press conference that his decision was purely based on how the match unfolded.

He said: “These are match decisions. The way the match was going, we needed another profile. There have been no decisions for the future.

“We haven't rotated too much in this Club World Cup and the context will be different in the future.”

Rodrygo has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer

London Standard

According to reports, Real Madrid and Rodrygo’s camp will have a discussion about the 24-year-old’s future from next week.

It is claimed that the the Spanish giants are open to letting the winger leave should he decide to with the club said to have set an asking price of £76.8m.

PSG have also been linked with a move for Rodrygo and a possible transfer windfall would allow for Madrid to reinforce the squad before the window slams shut.

“We haven't talked about it during the Club World Cup, but from now on we're open to making improvements,” Alonso added when asked about potential new signings.

“We are always looking to improve and there's room for improvement.”
