AS Roma are exploring a potential move for Al-Ahli midfielder Franck Kessie this summer (h/t journalist Gianluca Di Marzio).

Kessie had spells at Atalanta, AC Milan and Barcelona before moving to the Saudi Pro League in 2023.

The Ivorian international has been a key cog in Al-Ahli’s midfield, bagging 14 goals and nine assists in 77 appearances.

He also scored in the final of the AFC Champions League against Kawasaki Frontale to help the Royals clinch the title this year.

Roma are evaluating the financial requirements for Kessie, whose deal with Al-Ahli expires next summer.

His enormous wages will be a stumbling block, but manager Gian Piero Gasperini could play a crucial role in negotiations, having previously worked with him at Atalanta.

A new era dawns at the Stadio Olimpico under Gasperini, who will look to take the Giallorossi back to their heyday.

Leandro Paredes is expected to leave Roma this summer, with Boca Juniors working on his signing.

Gasperini wants to bring in an experienced midfielder to replace the Argentine, and Kessie is a top target.

He has proven to be a serial winner with Milan, Barcelona and Al-Ahli. He would provide the impetus for the Giallorossi to raise their bar.

Roma are competing with Napoli for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Matt O’Riley.

They are close to extending goalkeeper Mile Svilar’s contract amid interest from a host of European giants.
