Roma quickly wrapped up the Santiago Castro deal and will resume searching for a speedy attacker, but Gabriel Martinelli and Marcus Rashford are very complicated targets, despite some recent links.
According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Giallorossi will spend €35M, add-ons included. Artem Dovbyk is joining Bologna on loan with a €17M option to buy. The Ukrainian striker talked with coach Giovanni Tedesco and will try to revive his career in Emilia.
Roma will seek to augment their firepower after securing Castro, but Martinelli and Rashford have very rich wages. Both pocket around €11M gross annually, way more than their top players. Such an element contributed Mason Greenwood not moving to the Italian capital.
Antonio Nusa currently leads the pack, but RB Leipzig are in advanced talks to sell Yan Diomande to Real Madrid. It could have a negative ripple effect for the Giallorossi, Mediaset reports. As for Rashford, his name came up during the talks with Manchester United centered around Manu Koné, Matteo Moretto informs (via Calciomercato).
The winger is expendable following a productive loan at Barcelona, during which he totaled 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances. In addition to the salary-related issue, Manchester United have shortlisted but not aggressively pursued the Frenchman for the time being.
It’s eyebrow-raising that they splurged on a no.9 after spending the summer searching for a winger, but he and Donyell Malen are both mobile and can definitely team up. He’s way too expensive to be just a deputy, and there could be a slight tactical evolution. It remains to be determined whether they’ll go for another forward while Matias Soulé is still in town.
