Roma and Lazio’s Derby della Capitale has been rescheduled for Monday 18 May 2026 at 20:45 CET after Rome’s Prefect intervened amid a congested sporting calendar.

Il Corriere dell Sport reports that Lega Serie A could challenge the order at the Regional Administrative Court, which would need to rule by Thursday.

A Saturday slot was ruled out with Lazio preparing for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final against Inter Milan. Sunday afternoon was considered ideal but unworkable because the Italian Open is taking place in the same Foro Italico complex as the Stadio Olimpico.

The league had instead set a 12:30 CET kick-off on Sunday, prompting Maurizio Sarri to threaten a media boycott, while Rome’s Police Chief warned about the strain of two major events in one area.

On Tuesday, Prefect Lamberto Giannini ordered the match to be played on Monday evening, citing public order and traffic concerns linked to the tennis tournament.

The change also affects four other fixtures that must be played simultaneously to avoid any advantages in the European race, namely Pisa-Napoli, Juventus-Fiorentina, Genoa-Milan and Como-Parma.
