Ronald Koeman has resigned as Netherlands head coach after their World Cup last-32 elimination by Morocco.

The Netherlands topped Group F, drawing 2-2 with Japan before beating Sweden 5-1 and Tunisia 3-1. Before the tie, Koeman said it made little sense to practise penalties despite their two most recent World Cup exits having come via shootouts.

The knockout match finished 1-1, with Morocco winning the shootout 3-2 on Monday night.

Koeman had been in charge since 2023.

It followed a first spell in the role from 2018 to 2020.
