Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has pinpointed mistakes his team should avoid ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday (18h00).
Hugo Broos' men suffered a major setback following a goalless stalemate with Zimbabwe last Friday. As a result, South Africa are two points adrift table-toppers Benin, who have 17 points.
Now, heading into the Rwanda clash, Bafana need to beat Amavubi and hope Nigeria reign supreme against Gernot Rohr's side in Uyo to keep the World Cup dream alive.
With Group C set to be concluded on fine margins, Williams urged his teammates to play with calmness, attributing their frustrating Zimbabwe result to lack of cool heads at times.
“We had a lot of anxiety the last game and you could see in a lot of moments, we were not the calm team that we have become,” said the Bafana skipper.
"Of course, we wanted to get the job done so desperately and that was also one thing that I spoke to the guys about, ‘don’t doubt yourself, just play the way we have been playing.
"There was a lot of moments in the Zimbabwe game we became too desperate and you could see that's not us.
The goalkeeper continued: "We don't want to play with so much pressure on our shoulders. We want to be calm and make the right decisions.
It remains to be seen who will secure an automatic spot in the global showpiece, with all three teams still in contention ahead of Group C finale.
