Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has urged Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane to snub interest from elsewhere in favour of a sensational switch to Old Trafford.

Elusive

United have been linked with a swoop for Kane several years over the past few years but needless to say, a transfer has never materialised.

The strongest interest United held in the England captain is believed to have been in the summer of 2023. However, United backed out of a deal in favour of signing Rasmus Hojlund.

Kane ended up joining Bayern instead, where he has since confirmed his status as one of the deadliest strikers of his generation.

Kane has plundered 146 goals in 147 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, helping them to consecutive titles. Yet, there is growing speculation that he could be on his way out. It’s said that Barcelona have made enquiries about the possibility of signing him.

The 32-year-old’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, and Barcelona have asked his intermediaries about his availability.

However, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Kane is still more likely to extend his stay in Bavaria. But this has not deterred Rooney from calling for the talisman to join United. He said the draw is simple: a return to England and a shot at breaking Shearer’s Premier League record.

Rooney’s plea

Rooney said on his BBC podcast, “I think everyone would have an interest. Listen, if Harry Kane’s not going to stay at Bayern Munich then I’d love him at Manchester United.”

“If he’s listening, ‘Harry, you’ve got Alan Shearer’s record there… help get Manchester United back!'”

“You think for Harry Kane, he’s won the Bundesliga and let’s say he goes to Barcelona, he wins La Liga… deep down he wants to win the Premier League.”

The United icon added, “Imagine he comes to Manchester United and he’s the one to drive that, to get Manchester United back to winning the league.”

Rooney tipped Kane to be the decisive factor for England if they are to make history and win the World Cup in North America this summer.
