When Enzo Fernandez was subbed off after 90 minutes today, it was very notable how new manager Liam Rosenior embraced him on the touchline and spoke in his ear.
Asked in his press conference what he made of the Argentine’s performance, Rosenior was happy to sing his praises:
“I’m so impressed. I knew what an outstanding player he was already.” Rosenior said.
“But it’s not until you see a player up close to see what he’s all about. He’s a winner. It’s his birthday today so I told him he should go to a steakhouse and enjoy some Argentinian steak. He’s an important player.”
Rosenior also noted that Enzo had put in this serious shift just days after an exhausting game against Arsenal.

Fernandez got yet another assist today when his urgent pressing got him in place to block a Michael Kayode clearance, which then fell to Joao Pedro. Fernandez didn’t mean it, but it was a well deserved reward for his effort in pressing.
We hope he takes his boss’s advice and treats himself tonight. He should be rested for the midweek game against Pafos, and can then be fresh for the Premier League games to come. He’s now got 5 goal contributions in the last 6 games he’s started, and the team is really reliant on him.
Robert Sanchez was perhaps Chelsea’s best player today, making some big saves and staving off a Brentford team at set pieces. It was a great way to make amends for two midweek mistakes.
Liam Delap was only a sub today, but he made another good impact off the bench just by running around a bit. It’s pretty damning of his alternate, Joao Pedro, that that’s the case.
