AC Milan have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, the club said in a statement on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old Portuguese coach succeeds Massimiliano Allegri after his recent stint at Manchester United ended in January. The length of his deal was not disclosed.
Amorim said managing Milan had long been an ambition. He recognised the club’s history, prestige and worldwide support, and described the role as a challenge he approaches with pride and enthusiasm, adding that he is eager to get started.
Initially seen as a promising coach in Portugal with Casa Pia and Braga, Amorim confirmed his reputation at Sporting, whom he led from March 2020 to November 2024. He was then hired by Manchester United, started well, but endured a very difficult run and was dismissed on 5 January 2026.
Milan will compete in the Europa League next season.
