Manchester United have shared the first pictures of new head coach Ruben Amorim arriving at the club’s Carrington training ground following his move from Sporting CP.

Amorim was the man chosen to replace Erik ten Hag at the start of the month but has been serving a three-game notice period in Lisbon before making the switch to England.

The transition date carved out from the beginning has been 11 November, handing the Portuguese a full international break to familiarise himself with his new surroundings, before a first game in charge against Ipswich Town in the Premier League in 13 days' time. Even delays relating to a visa not yet being granted not expected to have much impact given the international buffer.

United confirmed that Amorim boarded a flight from Portugal on Monday morning, with images of his afternoon arrival at Carrington published a few hours later.

The 39-year-old was warmly greeted outside the men's first-team building by chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox. Not able to start work just yet, Amorim's first port of call is being introduced to key staff.

Amorim is the sixth permanent United boss appointed since Sir Alex Ferguson retired just over 11 years ago. Ten Hag had come to the end of road in October following a disappointing start to the season, although the Dutchman was among only a handful of managers in the club's stored 144-year history to have won two or more major trophies – alongside Ferguson, Sir Matt Busby, Ron Atkinson and Ernest Mangnall. But the club worked quickly to land the highly-rated Amorim.

With Amorim now in place, Ruud van Nistelrooy's departure from United has been confirmed. The Dutchman, who scored 150 goals for United across all competitions between 2001 and 2006, served as interim manager following the departure of Ten Hag, going unbeaten in four matches.

Three of those ended in victories, alongside a hard-fought draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
