Ruben Amorim is keen on keeping Manchester United’s forward Amad Diallo, whose contract ends next summer.
According to the Telegraph, Amorim has made it a priority that the Ivorian has his contract extended, having been impressed with his performances.
Diallo was one of the standout performers as Man United recorded their first victory under Amorim in the Premier League, beating Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford yesterday.
The 22-year-old chipped in two assists, showing his blistering pace and precision to set up Marcus Rashford’s second goal before teeing up Joshua Zirkzee for his second strike of the game.
Diallo has now provided three assists under Amorim, the most of any player in the United squad since he took over.
He is naturally a right winger but has been played as a wing-back by Amorim and has excelled.
Diallo joined United in 2021 from Atalanta but has not played consistently for the club before this season, having spent two separate loan spells with Rangers and Sunderland.
He returned to Old Trafford permanently at the end of the 2022/2023 campaign after an impressive loan spell with Sunderland.
However, he picked up a knee injury, which kept him out until December. This restricted him to just 12 appearances across all competitions last term.
Diallo has now overcome the setbacks he experienced to become an important player for the club.
If there was ever a doubt about the quality of the former Atalanta forward, that has now been erased by his superb performances for United this term.
Alongside Bruno Fernandes, he has the most assists for the Red Devils this season (5), ranks second for most goal involvements (6), most big chances created (5) and key passes per game (1.7).
Only Kobbie Mainoo (1.8) and Noussair Mazraoui (1.3) have recorded more successful dribbles per game than Diallo (1.2). He also ranks in the top 10 for most tackles and clearances per game.
Man United must do their utmost to keep the Ivorian beyond next summer.
