Ruben Amorim now wants INEOS to offer ‘crucial’ Red new contract as PL clubs could be ‘queuing up’ for him

Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen for Harry Maguire’s efforts to be rewarded with a new deal at Manchester United.

This comes after the club decided to activate Maguire’s one-year extension at the beginning of the year to keep him tied to Old Trafford until June 2026 as opposed to June 2025, when Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen were released.

Now, despite the resurgent centre-half turning 32 back in March and therefore being slightly older than the type of players INEOS would look to offer new contracts, Amorim has made it clear to United’s co-owners that he wants Maguire to continue playing a prominent role in his squad moving forward, as per TeamTalk.

Amorim is said to view the England international as ‘crucial’ to his project in M16 and is a ‘huge admirer’ of what he brings to the team.

As for Maguire’s stance, he is ‘determined’ to continue with United – to the point he may well finish his career with the club.

How Maguire has fared recently

The experienced Red has yet to start in the Premier League since 2025/2026 got underway, but Amorim’s newly-implemented system and formation have led to an ever-changing backline being deployed whilst he determines what works best.

After the coach succeeded Erik ten Hag last November, Maguire made 31 appearances in all competitions, 24 of which were from the off. He also returned three goals and one assist in that time; two contributions came in United’s emphatic Europa League quarter-final victory over Olympique Lyonnais during extra-time.

Maguire joined the 20-time champions from Leicester City in August 2019 for a then-record fee for a defender: £80 million. He has since accumulated 249 appearances and won both the FA Cup (2023/2024) and Carabao Cup (2022/2023).

Ex-Chief United Scout Mick Brown previously suggested that if Maguire were indeed let go, Premier League teams would be ‘queuing up’ for him.
