There was plenty of speculation over Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United following the club’s recent 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.
However, the Telegraph claims the Portuguese boss still retains the backing of the hierarchy despite the club’s worst start to a season in 33 years.
The club’s powerbrokers believe that United’s performances have been better than the results suggest and that the team have improved on key metrics since last term.
The Manchester giants are currently first in the Premier League for total shots and touches in the opposition box, second for expected goals and open play xG and fourth for shots on target.
However, they have the fourth-worst shot conversion rate (5.7 percent) in the top flight.
United delivered a disappointing display at the Etihad Stadium and deservedly lost 3-0.
They are now set to welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford on Saturday, and Amorim cannot afford to lose this one.
The 40-year-old was backed in the summer transfer window, with the club bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Diego Leon and Senne Lammens.
The early results have been disappointing, with the Red Devils registering just four points from their first four league matches. They were eliminated from the League Cup by Grimsby Town.
Amorim currently has the backing of the club’s hierarchy, but their stance could quickly change if results don’t improve soon.
