Ruben Kluivert completed a successful transfer to Olympique Lyon this summer and hopes to one day shine in the Premier League, according to comments to Voetbal International.
Following the 16 matches for FC Utrecht’s first team as he emerged from their youth ranks, Kluivert’s trip to Lyon passed through FC Dordrecht and Casa Pia AC. With his steady rise, the 24-year-old central defender remains curious about what lies ahead.
“I think you should always keep dreaming. I’ve always said I hope to play in the Premier League one day, but first I have to prove myself here.”
He’d also love to face his brother one day. “With or against Justin, I don’t care,” he laughs. “If I play against him, he’s not going to have a good afternoon either way. I’ll take him back to the old days for a moment, because sometimes I just couldn’t get him off the ball. That keeps going through my head, I need to get it out.”
In other news, Kluivert has already been approached about playing for Suriname or Curaçao, but those countries will have to wait a little longer as he has bigger plans.
“Playing for the Dutch national team with Justin would be the ultimate dream for me. This step brings it a little closer. I’ve always kept working hard and believing I can do it. I’m proud of myself for making it this far, but I certainly won’t stop here.”
