Germany were eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup last 32 at the hands of Paraguay after a penalty shootout, but Rudi Völler has backed Julian Nagelsmann despite their early exit.
“He’s still a top coach,” explained Völler. “He’s a fighter, he will regroup after such a painful defeat and come back ready to attack again. I know a lot of people won’t understand that after we’ve been eliminated like this.
“I’m still convinced he’s probably the right man to continue, but I’m not the DFB on my own – it’s not my decision alone.”
Naturally, Jürgen Klopp has been linked as Nagelsmann’s replacement, but the Red Bulls’ Head of Global Soccer was quick to quash rumours. “I understand that my name is being mentioned now but it’s not the time to talk about that,” he told MagentaTV.
