Rulani Mokwena's MC Alger booked their spot in the Algerian Cup Round of 16 after edging USM Khenchela 2-1 over the weekend.
MCA wasted no time, breaking the deadlock just six minutes in through Amine Messoussa. The visitors, however, responded swiftly, equalising five minutes later to ensure the teams were level at the break.
But Mokwena's charges reclaimed the advantage thanks to Soufiane Bayazid, who found the net for the second consecutive match—bringing his tally to five goals from 14 appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, the South African gaffer faces the massive task of defending the Algerian Ligue 1 crown, chasing domestic cup glory, and steering the side deep into the CAF Champions League.
MCA are currently perched at the summit of the log, holding a four-point cushion over MC Oran in second, who have played three games more.
Mokwena's men remain the only unbeaten side after nine league matches, having scored 12 goals and conceded just four.
Despite their league dominance, the Algerian champions have had a sluggish start to their Champions League campaign, sitting third in their group with a single point after losing their opener and drawing the second encounter.
