Ahead of the start of the winter transfer period, there is a new rumor in England about FC Bayern and the possible interest in a star from the Premier League.

What will happen at FC Bayern this winter? The rumour mill on the island is churning – and this time an interesting name has been mentioned: according to information from the portal teamtalk.com, FC Bayern are said to have held „direct talks“ with representatives of England international Kobbie Mainoo. The 20-year-old is currently only in the second tier at Manchester United and has been linked with a move away for weeks.

The British portal reports that Bayern are „confident“ that Mainoo would be „open“ to a move to Munich, citing as arguments the link with Harry Kane and the style of play under Vincent Kompany – a system in which central midfielders with dynamism and pressing quality are particularly in demand.

Other top clubs are also said to be keeping an eye on Mainoo. SSC Napoli are mentioned as a possible interested party, who are looking into a loan with an option to buy. According to the report, the young Englishman is „open“ to a move to Italy. Within the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Manchester City emerge as conceivable options.

Earlier rumors about Bayern and Mainoo

Whether Bayern will actually make a concrete approach is rather questionable. In any case, sporting director Christoph Freund sees no immediate need for action. „We are very, very happy with our squad and are really looking forward to three new winter additions. From that point of view, we are well positioned,“ said Freund last Friday, alluding to the return of Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito, who should all be available again before Christmas.

The speculation surrounding Kobbie Mainoo is not new, however. FC Bayern have already been linked with the central midfielder in the past – back then after a strong 2023/24 season, when Mainoo became a regular at Manchester United and was subsequently a regular for the Three Lions at the European Championships in Germany. Injuries later set the right-footer back and he is now only second choice under current United coach Rúben Amorim. His contract runs until 2027.
