Leicester City have added Conor Hourihane to Russell Martin’s backroom team and appointed Rhys Owen as fitness coach, with pre-season for 2026/27 under way. The squad reported back at Seagrave on Monday.

The former Aston Villa midfielder wrote on X that he was delighted by the opportunity, said there is plenty of work ahead and that he is excited for the season.

Hourihane left Barnsley in the summer after one season as head coach, having previously been first-team coach at Oakwell. Owen, a long-time colleague of Martin from Norwich City, then Swansea City, Southampton and Rangers, now links up with Matt Reeves on the fitness staff.

Martin has a two-week block with his players in north Leicestershire before the first friendly at Northampton Town on 11 July, kick-off 1pm. Stephy Mavididi, Hamza Choudhury, Ben Nelson and Louis Page were among those back on the grass.

Club legend Andy King remains part of the set-up and was pictured working with the players on Monday.

Adam Sadler’s short second stint has ended, the long-serving coach spent nine years at City from 2014 to 2023 before returning on a short-term deal last season. Set-piece coach Andy Hughes has also left after two seasons, having recently been part of Scotland’s World Cup coaching team.
