Leicester City boss Russell Martin is reportedly targeting MK Dons goalkeeping coach Tom Weal to strengthen his backroom staff as 2026/27 preparations continue.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Weal is highly recommended and already known to Martin.
Martin has already brought in former Barnsley boss Conor Hourihane as assistant manager and Rhys Owen as fitness coach. Club great Andy King is also part of the 40-year-old’s staff.
The pair have not worked together in coaching, although both were at Norwich City during Martin’s playing days. Weal joined MK Dons in June last year after helping Sunderland win promotion to the Premier League.
He previously worked at Huddersfield Town, Nottingham Forest and in Norwich’s academy, then became Notts County’s head of goalkeeping in 2021. He later moved to MK Dons.
Former Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson was part of Martin’s backroom staff at Rangers, and the report describes the pair as close allies.
City are currently without a first-team goalkeeping coach after Javi Ortiz left following Marti Cifuentes’ departure.
