Gravenberch had been declared fully fit to play against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday as Arne Slot’s out-of-sorts champions suffered a fourth successive defeat across all competitions, despite having been substituted at half-time of the Netherlands’ win over Finland in World Cup qualifying a week before with a hamstring issue.

However, the 23-year-old, who has been one the best midfielders in the top-flight so far this term, went down heavily in the second half following a challenge by Bryan Mbeumo and initially tried to continue before being replaced by Curtis Jones shortly after the hour mark.

Liverpool boss Slot confirmed following the dramatic 2-1 loss at Anfield that Gravenberch had twisted his ankle and would need to be assessed ahead of the midweek trip to Germany.

Gravenberch was not spotted during the portion of Tuesday’s session open to the media as Liverpool trained ahead of their flight to Frankfurt, making him a major doubt for the game.

However, there was better news on midfield colleagues Mac Allister and Endo, who were both seen taking part at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.

Mac Allister started alongside Gravenberch against United following a busy international period with Argentina, but suffered an accidental blow to the head from the elbow of team-mate Virgil van Dijk during the early stages of the game.

Liverpool were left furious that play was not stopped by referee Michael Oliver in order for Mac Allister to receive treatment, with United quickly scoring the opening goal of the game through Mbeumo.

The former Brighton midfielder was then treated and fitted with protective headwear up until exiting the game at the same time as Gravenberch, but trained without it on Tuesday.

The versatile Endo, meanwhile, resumed training on Tuesday after a knock that forced him to be omitted from the Japan squad for recent friendlies against Paraguay and Brazil, having missed out in the defeat by United.

Slot will give a full update on Liverpool’s latest team news in his pre-match press conference in Frankfurt on Tuesday evening, but has already confirmed that Alisson Becker’s hamstring injury will keep him out against both Eintracht and for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Brentford.

Liverpool’s only other known injury absentee at present is summer signing Giovanni Leoni, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered on his debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup last month.
