SAFIEL boosts offer to help Corinthians, seeks meeting on terms

The debates surrounding the proposal made by the creators of SAFIEL to resolve Corinthians' financial issues continue. On the afternoon of Thursday (8), a day after the group received an email with comments on the offer made by Romeu Tuma Júnior, president of the club's Deliberative Council (CD), a response was sent back, replicating part of the comments received.

The proposal made by SAFIEL, a project that intends to manage the club's football through a SAF with a minimum contribution of R$ 1.6 billion in share sales, was sent to President Osmar Stabile and three other council leaders of the club (Deliberative, Fiscal, and Guidance). It consisted of an addendum through which the group committed to releasing funds to lift the FIFA transfer ban imposed on Corinthians and pay the club's debt to Caixa for the construction of the Neo Química Arena.

Tuma was the first of the four recipients to respond, via an email to the project's creators. In the text, the CD president pointed out an alleged contradiction in the idea of an "immediate contribution" to the club, as it would be conditioned to processes such as audit and SAF approval; he pointed out the absence of a statutory procedure for this approval, something acknowledged by SAFIEL itself in a public hearing at Parque São Jorge; and criticized an alleged lack of details in the addendum regarding rates, deadlines, and guarantees of the offered assistance.

The Central do Timão found that the creators' response was also sent by email. In the text, the group thanked Tuma for the feedback and explained that the resources offered would constitute an advance to the club, as within the regular schedule of the project, these resources would only be available after the fundraising through the sale of shares, following the establishment of the SAF.

SAFIEL's response reiterated what was already stated in the addendum sent on Wednesday (6), explaining that the resources to lift the FIFA transfer ban, received by the club as a loan, would be delivered after the signing of the memorandum sent by the group in October 2025, and that the advance to pay Caixa would only be transferred after the audit and SAF approval by the club's internal bodies.

The project creators argued that the timing of the contribution to settle the stadium's debt was chosen to provide greater legal security to both the club and the investors, also aiming to ensure that the necessary fundraising to establish the SAF, through the sale of shares, was done appropriately, without the club being subject to the contractual demands imposed by the bank in the renegotiation agreement signed in 2022.

In the end, SAFIEL agreed with the need pointed out in the CD president's response that the topic needs to be better discussed in its technical aspects, due to the magnitude of the proposal. To this end, they requested the scheduling of a working meeting to detail the terms and conditions of the offer present in the addendum and also the memorandum sent in 2025, enabling the project's internal progress.

However, there is no specific date for this meeting. According to Central do Timão, the internal understanding at Parque São Jorge is that any negotiation between the club and SAFIEL must be conducted by the executive board, which is responsible for proposing any changes to the football's status within Corinthians' administrative structure. A meeting between Stabile and SAFIEL was scheduled for December but was canceled and never rescheduled.

It is also worth noting that one of the aids offered by the group in the addendum was rendered unnecessary this Friday (9), as Corinthians settled the debt it had with Santos Laguna, from Mexico, for the signing of defender Félix Torres, thus removing the club from FIFA's transfer ban list. Nevertheless, the club still has other financial issues regarding signings that have not been resolved and may lead to future penalties if agreements are not reached.
