AS Saint-Étienne supporters are barred from Saturday’s 20:00 visit to AS Nancy-Lorraine in Ligue 2 matchday 29 after an Interior Ministry order prohibiting away travel.
L'Équipe reports that the decree cites a real and serious risk of confrontation between the rival groups.
Authorities highlight a long-standing rivalry marked by strong animosity, despite few direct clashes in recent years. The lack of meetings between 2017 and 2025 had kept tensions in check, now revived by their reunion in the league.
The order also points to recent incidents. In Nancy, trouble flared in mid-February during a match against Grenoble, leading to disciplinary sanctions. On the Saint-Étienne side, a March brawl with Grenoble supporters left several people injured, including police officers.
Deemed a sensitive context, officials have opted for a firm approach to prevent disorder around Stade Marcel-Picot. The decision removes significant travelling support at a pivotal stage, with Les Verts chasing automatic promotion to Ligue 1.
