The Arsenal fans were jubilant at the end of Wednesday’s win over Brighton, a hard-fought victory that earned the team another vital three points in the race for the Premier League title.
But less than a minute after the end of the game, another big cheer went up in the away end, as news filtered through that Manchester City had been held to a 2-2 draw at home to Nottingham Forest.
Speaking after the game, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka admitted the celebration “out of nowhere” let him know something good had happened in the other game.

“This feels like a massive win, definitely,” Saka told TNT Sports. “Obviously on the pitch we didn’t know the [City] score, but we heard the fans celebrating out of nowhere. So I kind of knew in my head something went well in the other games.
“We know we’re in a race, and it’s very tight, and it’s been like that for the last few years.
“But tonight especially, we play at the same time, we both needed to win, massive games. And we did, they didn’t, so we can be happy today.”

The title race certainly isn’t done yet, despite Arsenal’s seven-point lead with eight games to play. For a start, City have nine to play, holding a game in hand to be played against Crystal Palace later in the season.
The Gunners also have to travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Pep Guardiola’s side themselves. Should City win that game and their game in hand, the gap would effectively be cut to just one point.
That means that to keep control of the title race, Arsenal can’t afford a single slip-up.
That being said, this was certainly a night to enjoy, and an opportunity for the fans to start to believe again.
