Mohamed Salah is refusing to rule Manchester City out of the title race despite Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table.

Salah scored twice as Liverpool won 3-2 at Southampton on Sunday to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds were forced to come from behind at St Mary’s, after Adam Armstrong and Mateus Fernandes cancelled out Dominik Szoboszlai’s opener for Liverpool. Salah equalised after guiding a long ball past Alex McCarthy, before slamming in the winner from the penalty spot.

Arne Slot’s side capitalised on Manchester City’s 4-0 defeat to Tottenham to extend their advantage at the top. Only Manchester United (1993/94) have ever held a bigger lead at the top of the Premier League after 12 games.

Salah, however, said ‘Man City is Man City’ and refused to rule out the champions despite their poor run of form. Liverpool face the Citizens in a huge showdown at Anfield next weekend.

On the importance of his goals at Southampton, Salah told Sky Sports: “They were very important, especially after being down 2-1. It’s the most important thing to have won the game.

“Each game is different. They had a game plan and played very well. We managed to come back and win the game. I think we have a good game plan, we played our game and I was confident we would create chances.

“It’s great. Hopefully, we keep going in that direction. We have a game against them so hopefully, we win it and go 11 points clear.

“Man City is Man City. They have a bad time now but they have great players.”
