Mohamed Salah’s final game at Anfield took much of the attention, and while he delivered a moment of quality, Liverpool could only draw 1-1 with Brentford on a day that still ended with Champions League qualification confirmed.
There was a clear sense of occasion before kick-off as Salah and Andy Robertson made their final home appearances for the club. Liverpool started on the front foot, with Salah immediately involved, curling a free-kick against the post and looking keen to leave on a high.
For much of the first half, the Reds had control without really putting the game to bed. Brentford stayed organised and dangerous on the counter, and Kevin Schade almost punished them before the break, only to be denied by Alisson.
Liverpool eventually broke through after the restart, and it was fitting that Salah was at the heart of it, sliding a clever pass across goal for Curtis Jones to finish from close range in front of the Kop.
But the lead didn’t last long. Brentford hit back through Schade, who rose well to head past Alisson and quieten the home crowd.
From there, the game drifted into something more emotional than intense. Salah came off to a huge ovation midway through the second half, followed later by Robertson, with both players clearly taking in the moment.
Keith Andrews' side had a late chance to win it but couldn’t take it, and Liverpool did just enough to secure the point they needed for a top-five finish and a place in next season’s Champions League.
