The former Arsenal midfielder has been hired for his first role as a manager after previously working as a coach at Norwich City last season.

The 33-year-old was also an academy coach at the Gunners, and has now worked his way up to take over at Kenilworth Road.

He has replaced Matt Bloomfield, who was dismissed with the side sitting 11th in the League One table, five points adrift of the play-off places.

Wilshere will be aiming to guide the Hatters to promotion back to the Championship after they were relegated last season.

Wilshere has posted a message to social media to thank the club for giving him this opportunity in his career.

He revealed his excitement at his first game as manager this weekend at Kenilworth Road, and that he will give everything to help the team improve.

“Proud and honoured to be named manager of this great club [Luton Town],” wrote Wilshere, via Instagram.

“Thank you to everyone for all of the support.

“I’ll give everything I have to bring success to the club and our fantastic fan base.

“See you at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.”

Many prominent names in football replied with messages to Wilshere to congratulate him on this milestone in his career, including Allardyce.

“Good luck Jack,” responded the former England manager.

Bloomfield’s final game in charge at Luton saw the side lose 2-0 to current league leaders Stevenage.

The Hatters moved quickly to replace him with Wilshere, with Chris Powell joining him as part of his coaching staff, taking on the role of assistant manager.

Wilshere’s side will be aiming to close the gap to the top six, with their sights set on an immediate return to the second division.

His first game in charge at Luton will come this weekend with a home clash against Mansfield Town on 18 October in a 3pm kick-off.

His first home game this weekend will be quite the occasion, and Wilshere will be keen to hit the ground running with three points against Mansfield Town.
