Santi Cazorla informs Real Oviedo of his plans for next season | OneFootball

Spanish football icon Santi Cazorla has informed Real Oviedo of his intention to continue plying his trade with the club for one more season.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.

Veteran midfielder Cazorla is fresh off a season to remember in Oviedo.

Despite his advancing years, the former Arsenal man played a leading role in Los Carbayones securing a surprise return to the top-flight of Spanish football.

All told, over the course of the season, Cazorla racked up 35 appearances, notching five goals and five assists along the way.

And yet, until today, the diminutive midfielder’s plans for next season had remained unclear.

Now 40 years of age, Cazorla recently saw his contract terms with Oviedo expire, with the decision regarding his continuation having been left up to the player himself.

And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, the news which fans across Spain were so eagerly awaiting has finally arrived.

As per a report from MD:

‘Santi Cazorla, captain and standard-bearer of Real Oviedo, informed the club this Wednesday that he will continue playing for another season.’
