Santiago Ascacibar is closing in on a move to Boca after an agreement in principle with Estudiantes, with final details set to be decided in the coming hours.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Boca will purchase 80% of his rights, with Estudiantes retaining the remaining 20%. Brian Aguirre could be included in the proposal. The forward, signed for five million dollars for 80% from Newell's in mid 2024, would join Estudiantes on loan with an option to buy.
Boca opened their 2026 campaign with a win over Deportivo Riestra, and Claudio Úbeda’s side are also awaiting Ángel Romero’s arrival. If completed, Ascacibar would sign a long-term deal to bolster the squad for 2026.
Boca visit Estudiantes on Wednesday at 22:15 at Estadio UNO Jorge Luis Hirschi in the Torneo Apertura second round.
The club are contending with a major blow as 34-year-old Rodrigo Battaglia requires surgery. His recovery is projected at six to eight months, and in some cases can extend to a year. He is set to miss the entire Apertura and the Copa Libertadores group stage, which has forced the hierarchy to accelerate negotiations for Ascacibar.
