Santos’s deliberative council meets on Monday night to debate and vote on amendments to a new club statute.
Diario Do Peixe reports that, following last year’s presentation by the statute commission, councillors tabled proposals and these will go to a vote at the session.
One key issue is the qualifying period for members to vote. The initial draft raised the requirement from three to five years, but an accepted amendment retains three years, as set out in article 25.
Rules for standing for president also drew scrutiny. The draft had demanded service across three council terms and at least 10 uninterrupted years of membership. Amendments admitted for consideration reduce council service to two terms or remove it entirely, and cut uninterrupted membership to five years.
Three amendments will be examined on the article covering a potential switch to an SAF. The revised text provides that the club must hold at least 10% of both voting and total capital in any company or investment fund.
Further proposals touch on areas such as the club’s embassies. Another article would grant free admission at home matches to holders of specific honorary distinctions and laureate athletes.
If the council approves the draft, the club will call a general assembly for members to vote on the final text.
