Santos have renewed goalkeeper Diógenes’ contract until the end of 2028, with a €70 million release clause, about R$ 418.6 million.
According to Globo.com, he has been at the club since 2020 and has four outings, two official and two friendlies. His last appearance came in last year's draw with Atlético-MG.
He came on in the second half after Gabriel Brazão took a knee to the head in a clash with Igor Gomes, developed swelling on his forehead and asked to be replaced.
His time at Santos has fluctuated. He started in the side that finished runners-up in the 2022 Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, was later sidelined in the second half of that year for indiscipline, then returned to training at the end of 2022.
After Santos were relegated in the Campeonato Brasileiro, he was again separated from the group early in 2024, training with players not in the club’s plans. Once talks for Goiás goalkeeper Tadeu ended, he was reinstated, then moved to third choice behind João Paulo and Brazão after the latter arrived.
He became the immediate understudy after João Paulo suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury to his left ankle against América-MG on 24 May that year in Série B. When the former starter was loaned to Bahia in August last year, Diógenes settled as first back-up to Brazão.
