Santos forward Caballero called up by Paraguay for World Cup | OneFootball

Santos forward Gustavo Caballero has been named in Paraguay’s squad for the World Cup.

Diario Do Peixe reports that the forward has been involved with the Albirroja since March. He scored in a friendly against Morocco. Earlier this year he joined Portsmouth on loan, making 12 Championship appearances and scoring one goal.

His loan expires in June and he is awaiting clarity on whether he returns to Santos or secures another move. He and Neymar, selected by Brazil, will represent the Alvinegro at the tournament.

Caballero’s Santos contract runs until 23 July 2027. Signed last July, he featured sparingly, with 12 Brasileirão games yielding one goal and one assist.

This year he featured in the opening rounds of the Paulista and Série A.

He arrived from Nacional in Paraguay amid interest from Vitória de Guimarães, Paris FC and Vasco, with his wish to play alongside Neymar influential.

Born in San Lorenzo, he will turn 25 in September. He previously played for Deportivo Capiatá and Sportivo Ameliano before joining Nacional, and featured for Paraguay’s under-23s in a friendly last year.
