Brazil and Morocco meet again on Saturday 13 in the 2026 World Cup group stage. According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos forward Rony started for Brazil the last time the sides met, in March 2023.

That friendly in Tangier finished 2-1 to Morocco. Sofiane Boufal put the hosts ahead on 29 minutes of the first half, Casemiro levelled on 22 minutes of the second half, then Abdelhamid Sabiri struck the winner on 34 minutes of the second half.

It was Brazil’s first outing of the 2026 cycle. With Tite departing at the end of 2022, Ramon Menezes took interim charge and selected a team very different to the one at this year’s tournament.

Brazil started with Weverton in goal, a back four of Emerson Royal, Éder Militão, Ibañez and Alex Telles, a midfield of Casemiro, Andrey Santos and Lucas Paquetá, and a front three of Rony, Rodrygo and Vinicius Júnior.

Only five of those starters have been called up for the 2026 World Cup, Weverton, Ibañez, Casemiro, Lucas Paquetá and Vinicius Júnior. Rodrygo and Éder Militão missed out through injury, while Emerson Royal, Alex Telles, Andrey Santos and Rony were left out by Carlo Ancelotti.

Rony joined Santos in January 2026 after a 2025 stint with Atlético-MG. Signed to bolster the attack, he is still bidding to cement a place under Cuca, with 23 appearances, one goal and one assist so far.
