Santos will hold a meeting on Monday 16 to assess coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s position. According to Diario Do Peixe, the club are unbeaten in three but feel the side should deliver more given the squad and training time.
Vojvoda was suspended for the 1-1 draw with Corinthians on Sunday 15, with an assistant in charge.
The run comprises a win over Vasco, then draws with Mirassol and Corinthians. Results are said to have kept the Argentine in post, yet after more than 10 days to prepare for Mirassol the Football Department and board did not see the desired progress.
Others around the club argue directors are wasting time and that viable alternatives exist. President Marcelo Teixeira is being urged to change coach, with other names considered, the leading option being Cuca.
Teixeira and football executive Alexandre Mattos have resisted a change. Special advisers and members of the Management Committee and Deliberative Council favour his exit, and Teixeira accepts he could face pressure if he brings Cuca back.
Cuca’s past rape conviction in Switzerland weighs heavily. He also led Santos to the 2020 Libertadores final, losing to Palmeiras, then left Vila Belmiro in troubled circumstances.
Vojvoda arrived in August last year and has overseen 33 matches. Last year brought 18 games, with six wins, eight draws and four defeats, a 48% points return, and this year 15, with four wins, six draws and five defeats, a 40% return, for 10 wins, 14 draws and nine defeats overall.
