Santos have long funded progress by exporting elite talent, and their five priciest departures trace that story. These headline deals have helped steady finances and sustain investment in youth.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the club’s five largest outgoing transfers and reported fees are as follows.
Fifth, Marcos Leonardo joined Benfica for about 22 million euros at 20. He later moved to Al Hilal after his spell in Portugal, reflecting the Middle East’s growing pull.
Fourth, Robinho went to Real Madrid in 2005/06 for about 24 million euros after spearheading the 2002 Brasileiro win. He later played for Manchester City and Milan, and returned to Santos several times.
Third, Gabriel Barbosa signed for Inter Milan in 2016/17 for about 29.5 million euros at 20. He struggled for rhythm in Europe, excelled back home with Flamengo, then returned to Santos in 2026.
Second, Rodrygo’s switch to Real Madrid was worth about 45 million euros. The agreement came while he was still very young, he remained until eligible, then adapted quickly in Europe.
First, Neymar’s 2013/14 move to Barcelona commanded about 88 million euros. He later joined Paris Saint-Germain, then Al Hilal, and remains the club’s record sale.
Such deals are vital to Brazilian football’s economics. The funds bolster the academy, improve facilities and keep Santos competitive.
Recent seasons have brought on and off the pitch turbulence, yet the youth pathway remains central to the plan. This year, the Copa Sudamericana is a major target after an early Paulista exit.
