São Paulo 'to accelerate' Marcos Antônio purchase to fend off Flamengo | OneFootball

Flamengo remain interested in signing São Paulo midfielder Marcos Antônio, and São Paulo are weighing moves to keep him.

According to ESPN, the club are studying an anti-poaching plan, bringing forward the permanent purchase to extend his contract and improve his salary, making Flamengo's pursuit more difficult.

Flamengo have tabled a financially attractive offer to Marcos Antônio. If he accepts, his wages would rise considerably, so São Paulo are working to retain the player.

Flamengo's effort now involves José Boto, the club's technical director, who previously worked with the midfielder at Shakhtar Donetsk and has a good relationship with him.

As negotiations continue, Flamengo face Internacional at the Maracanã on Wednesday in the second round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Kick-off is at 19:00 Brasília time.
