Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri praised his team’s solidity following Monday’s 2-0 win over Cagliari, and was even satisfied with Boulaye Dia.

Lazio Beat Cagliari at Home

The Biancocelesti confirmed their improved form by extending their unbeaten run to six match, and registering their fourth clean sheet in a row. Gustav Isaksen and Mattia Zaccagni scored two formidable strikes in the second half that ended the Sardinians’ resistance, but Dia had another anonymous display in attack.

Maurizio Sarri Sees Positives in Boulaye Dia’s Performance

Nevertheless, Sarri defended the Senegalese’s performance in his post-match press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi). The manager admitted that the 28-year-old could have done better in attack, but insists that his defensive contribution shouldn’t go unnoticed.

The match was difficult. It was obvious. Cagliari played well away, only losing in Naples in the dying seconds. The numbers indicated it would be a tough game, and it was. Our attitude was that of a mature team: we struggled when we needed to and pushed at the right time. If we’re managing to concede less, it’s thanks to the way we’re defending, not just our backline. Dia is getting some criticism, but he’s doing an extraordinary job defensively, even though he has the ability to be more dangerous going forward.  When he doesn’t score, however, he’s making himself useful for the team.

The 66-year-old also admitted that he’s waiting for Taty Castellanos’ return from injury, as he’s struggling with his current options up front.

I’m running out of ideas. Noslin played a short cameo. I placed him as a striker with Pedro on the wing due to the type of match. Castellanos will undergo some tests in the coming days. It’s a situation that’s evolving positively. Once he recovers, he’ll return to the group, first partially and then fully.

Sarri also reassured that Alessio Romagnoli was hauled off at half-time to avoid the risk of an injury. He was replaced by Oliver Provstgaard.

We considered it a precautionary substitution. He felt one flexor was harder than the other.

Sarri Offers Updates on Injured Lazio Stars

Finally, the manager provided updates on Lazio’s injured players, mainly Nicolo Rovella, Nuno Tavares and Matteo Cancellieri.

Everyone seems to be on the home straight, but the most complicated situation is Rovella’s. He tried a more difficult route (avoiding surgery), and the question remains whether it can be successful or not. Let’s hope for a positive outcome Given the type of muscle injury, I think Cancellieri will take a while longer. Nuno Tavares shouldn’t require too much time on the sidelines; the injury was really minor. It has been difficult with all these injuries. But after the break, we should recover some of them.
