League One

Luton Town v Bolton Wanderers, Saturday 15:00: Back Bolton @ 15/8

Luton's recent 5-0 defeat at Barnsley is not easily forgotten and considering they struggled to break down Rotherham recently at Kenilworth Road, I am not mad keen about the Hatters and their price of 13/10 here.

I looked initially at the Bolton DNB option, but 1/2 effectively takes that bet out for me, so at 15/8, the Trotters look an option to hopefully address their away form.

It's been a real contrast from home to road matches with six on terra firma for Bolton, and with just six points across their seven away league games (W1 D3 L3) compared to their 21 on home soil - it is the biggest such disparity in League One (15).

These stats are there to be broken, and Bolton's loan forward Amario Cozier-Duberry is very much a man in form at the moment.

Doncaster Rovers v Peterborough United, Saturday 15:00: Back BTTS 'No' @ 6/5

Peterborough have scored just six times on the road this season from their seven matches and it's a good starting point to attack the BTTS 'No' bet here at the bigger of the two options at 6/5.

There's no doubt the impact of Luke Williams since replacing Darren Ferguson, as the Posh spanked Wimbledon for five and hit three past Stockport at home recently, but for all their possession in their most recent fixture against Stevenage, they struggled to break down Alex Revell's stoic defence.

Donny's sticky patch continues as they haven't won in the league for a while now - the 6th September to be precise, and a strict line of form in their recent Stevenage game last weekend and a 0-0, this could be the sort of 90 minutes neither wants to over-commit in attack as Donny have failed to win any of their last 10 league games (D3 L7), with their seven defeats in that time as many as across their prior 40 league outings combined between October 2024 and September 2025.

Wigan Athletic v Stevenage, Saturday 15:00: Back Stevenage @ 12/5

After beating Port Vale 1-0 last time at home, Wigan will be looking to record successive home league wins without conceding for the first time since a run of three between February and March 2024.

Defensively, Ryan Lowe as the hosts soundly set up, and they very much have the look of an "Unders" team as six of their last seven have gone that way.

Home metrics of 1.39xG and 1.28xA leads me to think they are unlikely to blow teams away, and certainly not the League One leaders Stevenage.

The Herts side are still a point clear and continue to outperform expectations, and indeed outperform their metrics too with a lowly xG away of 1.05 and 1.24 against. This has the makings of a very close game, as all five of their games coming into this have resulted in Under 2.5 Goals backers collecting.

League Two

MK Dons v Fleetwood Town, Saturday 15:00: Back BTTS 'Yes' @ 4/5

Fleetwood Town have won each of their last four league games against MK Dons, scoring nine goals in total during that time and I toyed with the idea of going for the upset here as I tend to get the Dons wrong at almost every corner when a short price.

They are 8/11 for Saturday, but again, backing the Dons has not been good for me.

No side has scored as many goals in League Two this season than MK Dons (33), with this their most after their opening 17 matches of a league campaign since 2014-15 (38) when they eventually finished second in the third tier and that's how I prefer to approach this with a punt on goals.

BTTS 'Yes' appeals here and that's a bet that has copped nine times from Fleetwood's last ten league games.

Bristol Rovers v Notts County, Saturday 15:00: Back Notts County to win @ 11/8

Last week's column had very few bright spots, but going against Rovers was the right call and still, Darrell Clarke remains in the post as manager, which is something as a surprise.

Clarke's team can't beat an egg at the moment and have lost seven straight in the league - and facing a decent County side could mean defeat and perhaps curtains for Clarke.

The visitors have got a goal in them with Alassana Jatta, although their is a differential from the Magpies' xG numbers both home and away with 1.4xg plays 1.2 away.

Last weekend's reverse against Colchester was a surprise and they had nearly 72% possession in the match, so were well and truly sucker punched. I cannot see Rovers carrying the same sort of threat and with the Gas, you always feel you have a chance of scoring.

Opposing Swindon with Grimsby last weekend almost came off in a 2-2, and it means Ian Holloway's entertainers remain very much so with goals home and away both in double figures. Home reads F16 and A11, while away stands at F13 and A12.

Comparing notes with Chesterfield, and their knack of scoring and conceding is on a par. At Saltergate it's F17 A9, and away at F14 A18.

Two heavy-hitting sides.

Backers of the Over 2.5 Goals with these two would have struck gold a whopping 12 times with Swindon, while Chesterfield have nine.

In League Two this season, no side has been winning during their matches for longer than Swindon (729 minutes). Though in those situations, they've nearly conceded as many goals (8) as they've scored (9) so they are clearly entertaining, and the 3/1 for both to score in the first half is well worth an interest.
