Saúl reports back to Flamengo after heel surgery | OneFootball

Saúl Ñíguez reported back to Flamengo on Tuesday after surgery on his left heel, undergoing assessment at CT Ninho do Urubu as his recovery programme continues.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the midfielder will be monitored by club staff and is following the schedule set for this phase of rehabilitation.

He had been dealing with heel pain since the closing stretch of the 2025 season, but chose conservative treatment to stay available for decisive Libertadores and Campeonato Brasileiro matches.

With the campaign over, he consulted the club’s medical department and then underwent heel surgery in Madrid, Spain, beginning a process aimed at returning to the pitch.

Before the operation, Saúl waited for Dr Niek Van Dijk to return from leave, as he is considered a world reference in the treatment of insertional Achilles tendinopathy, a condition characterised by a prominent heel bone that causes pain.
