Saúl will use the World Cup break to honour his pledge to focus on fitness, having missed the early months of 2026 after tendon surgery. The Flamengo midfielder is targeting improved condition for the second half of the campaign.
According to Coluna Do Fla, the Spaniard aims to return stronger to increase his opportunities at Fla. He has been managing pain since his comeback and is working to fully recover the tendon operated at the start of January.
Saúl said he knows he must put in the work to reach peak condition. He admitted he is still short physically after little football since 18 December and that he struggled on Athletico-PR’s artificial turf, but played as the team needed him.
Part of the squad began holidays on Sunday 31 after facing Coritiba, with roughly 15 days off. In that window, Saúl will run a personal intensive to address the discomfort. Jorginho and Léo Ortiz have also delayed their holidays to continue treatment.
Jorginho fractured a toe against Palmeiras, while Léo Ortiz sustained a thigh muscle injury against Coritiba. The trio will not enjoy the same rest period as their team-mates.
Flamengo are due to report back on 19 June at Ninho do Urubu. During the World Cup, they will play three friendlies in Portugal against Falkirk, Birmingham and Benfica.
