Kicker reports that SC Braga may be interested in acquiring Austrian defensive specialist Florian Grillitsch. The 29-year-old is one of three TSG 1899 Hoffenheim professionals not currently partaking in their Bundesliga club’s preseason training camp. Grilltisch was told that he had no future prospects in Kraichagau by TSG head coach Christian Ilzer last autumn. He was loaned out to Real Valladolid last spring.
Another loan deal isn’t an option for Grillitsch as he enters the final year of his current contract. The 52-times-capped ÖFB international’s current estimated market value lies at €2m; its lowest value in nearly a decade. It remains possible that Hoffenheim may buy Grillitsch out or simply give him his outright release in order to facilitate a departure on a free.
Grillitsch’s appears set to depart German football for the second time in three years. After two years at Werder Bremen and six seasons at Hoffenheim, Grillitsch joined Ajax on a free in September of 2022. An ill-fated year in the Eredivisie saw him return to Sinsheim on another free transfer just 10 months later.
A combined ten seasons spent playing in the Bundesliga has seen Grillitsch rack up 216 German top flight appearances. At his peak in November of 2020, Grillitsch was considered a €25m-valued player.
