Schalke 04 head coach Kees van Wonderen – having already attempted to tender his resignation once this season – let anyone who would listen know he would be leaving the club last night. Reports from Sport Bild, Reviersport and Kicker are all reporting clear statements made by van Wonderen at a media round on Saturday evening.

After conducting his post match press conference following Saturday night’s 2-2 draw with HSV, Van Wonderen spoke of a “farewell tour” in his final four matches in charge. The 56-year-old made it clear that his days were numbered. Van Wonderen also offered up critiques of the club management. Such words may cancel out the coach’s desired “farewell tour”. Van Wonderen might be axed immediately.

“I have to do my best to enjoy the four matches to come,” said Van Wonderen. “All signs point to me not being here after the season. We’re not on the same page and not communicating.

“We have to stick together and we’re not,” van Wonderen said of the soon-to-be-confirmed club managerial shake up. “You have to stick behind the path you’ve chosen and not veer left after a few games and then right again. If there are doubts, then we should go our separate ways.

“It’s better for someone else to do it,” van Wonderen concluded.
