Voetbal International reports that Schalke are monitoring PEC Zwolle goalkeeper Jasper Schendelaar and have tracked the 25-year-old for years.
His contract expires in summer, but a free move appears unlikely as Zwolle hold an option to extend it by one year. A departure at the end of the 2024-25 season is considered possible.
Knee and thigh problems have curtailed his campaign, with only two Eredivisie appearances so far. Both ended 2-2, against NAC Breda and NEC Nijmegen in October.
If he were to join Schalke, Schendelaar would likely start as competition for first-choice goalkeeper Loris Karius. Even so, the club could view him as a potential long-term number one.
It also remains to be seen whether Schalke will offer 1.FC Heidenheim loanee Kevin Müller a permanent deal when his loan expires.
