After Germany's 2-1 win over Ghana tonight, Nico Schlotterbeck was asked about his future and recent rumours suggesting the defender is set to extend his stay at Borussia Dortmund.
Contrary to the headlines, the 26-year-old stated unequivocally that no agreement had been reached: "I must clearly deny that. Unfortunately, we haven't reached that point."
Schlotterbeck added that he was “surprised by the reporting" and explained that BVB's recent change of sporting directors has implications for the contract negotiations.
"I probably would have made a decision in the next few weeks [but] I negotiated with Sebastian for a long time and he's no longer there [at Dortmund].
“I have to see. I will hold talks with Ole [Book – the club's new sporting director], but it's not time yet. It's bad for the BVB fans right now. But it's not an easy situation for me either," he added.
Schlotterbeck first donned the yellow and black jersey in the summer of 2022, and has since made a total of 154 competitive appearances while contributing 10 goals.
